A Bit About Us
We are...
folks with a family-owned commercial cattle ranch in South Dakota. We are a husband, a wife (me), a grown daughter, and a young son. [The two oldest boys from our family are grown and living off the ranch.] We raise some horses--registered Quarter Horses or grade (non-registered) horses. Why? Because we like horses and because we use horses in our work. We don't show horses or compete...though we may do a bit someday, who knows. We just like to use and raise good horses...for our own use and to be able to provide a few good future riding or using prospects each year to other folks who don't raise their own horses or are just looking for a good colt or filly that suits them and their needs.
We also have some llamas...and have a few gelded males for sale. They provide coyote control for us...originally we had sheep as well, and their job was protecting the sheep herd. One of these days, we'll probably have more sheep. In the meantime, our llamas provide coyote control for calving season and are just nice to have around...they can make good pets, companion animals for horses or other species, fiber for yarn, etc. We only clip our llamas when and if they need it: for example, if one has a particularly heavy coat and it is too hot for them to be comfortable, we may clip some off. If we run across a person someday who wants to buy some raw llama fiber to work with, we'd consider doing some shearing. That would be in spring or summer; if you're interested in that, let us know and we'll see if we can work something out.
We live "West River"--which to folks "in the know" means we live in the western half of South Dakota, West of the Missouri River! We're basically located in North Central South Dakota. Our nearest town is 15 miles away and is...small to tiny by most folks standards, unless you're rural like us.
Hope you get out here to visit and see our horses in person someday!
